What pH Should My Urine Be?

Urine pH is a key indicator of your general wellbeing, and will change on a daily basis depending on what you eat. The pH scale ranges from 0 at its most acidic to 14 at its most basic, with 7 being neutral. However, urine pH ranges from 4.5 to just under 8 on average, and tends to skew more acidic. That means that, if your urine pH isn’t an on-the-dot neutral 7, that’s not cause for concern, but if it’s too far one way or the other, it might well be the result of something you ate.

Why Are Nutrients Important?

There’s no more simple way to explain the importance of nutrients than this: your body literally needs them to function. Some provide energy in the form of calories, while others form the raw materials that make up our bodies, from tissues and organs to teeth and bones.

Your body does a lot during any given day, so there are many functions you’ll need to prepare it for. Nutrients help control processes like sweating, maintaining body temperature, regulating metabolism, blood pressure and more. When all of these are in balance, a goal state called homeostasis is achieved, and one of the quickest ways to tell if you’ve reached that goal is by using Elosia’s pH urine test strips and taking control of your health.

What Nutrients Should I Eat Daily?

When it comes to the nutrients you should be eating every day, the following six are essential because of how they help the body to function:

  • Water makes up over 60% of your body weight. It helps to keep you hydrated, nourishes the cells in the body, and acts as a shock absorber to the brain, among many other functions.

  • Minerals like calcium, iron and zinc are essential for core functions like regulating the metabolism, and boosting your immune system.

  • Vitamins are useful for fighting off viruses and illness, with thirteen essential vitamins to explore. Each serves a different key purpose and helps the body to reach and remain in a state of balance.

  • Fats aren’t all bad! In fact, healthy fats are crucial to a good diet, not only as a source of energy, but because they can decrease your risk of heart disease, and aid brain function.

  • Carbohydrates act as fuel in the body, and play an important role in both the central nervous system and the brain.

  • Proteins literally provide the building blocks of the body. Found in every single cell, they are made up of amino acids, some of which we create ourselves, and others which can only be found in food.

What Happens When Your pH Balance is Off?

In order for things to run smoothly, your body has to maintain a healthy balance of acids and bases. Testing the pH of your urine can provide you with a convenient shorthand answer for how you’re doing when it comes to nutrition. If your urine pH is too acidic, that could be a sign that you could be at risk of kidney stones, among other serious issues. Likewise, if your urine pH is too high, it could be a sign of kidney failure.

If you’re concerned about the pH level of your urine being too high or too low, be sure to check in with a medical professional to make sure it’s nothing serious. Between the advice you get from our app, and any consultation you may choose to take with a medical professional, you’ll be able to adjust your diet, using your pee as your guide.

How Do You Test for Nutrition?

To get the most accurate test for nutrition, you can ask your doctor to give you a blood test. However, for a quicker way of getting a rough idea of how your diet is affecting your body, you can simply test the pH level of your urine at home. Not only that, but when you test your nutrition using Elosia’s urine test strips, you’ll receive additional support through our app, giving you expert nutrition and wellness advice to help you make healthier choices.
